The Baltic Medal was established in 1856 in commemoration of the Baltic campaign of the Crimean War. The Medal was awarded to the Officers, Petty Officers, Seamen, and marines of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines who served under Admiral Sir Charles Napier and Rear Admiral the Honourable R. Dundas in the campaign from 1854-1855. It was also awarded to Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers, and enlisted men of the British Army, as well as sappers and engineers, for service in the same campaign.
The Medals were issued unnamed, although many recipients had their medals privately engraved. Only the 106 medals issued to Royal Engineers, and Royal Sappers and Miners were officially named.
There may be additional versions of the Medal that differ in size.
