History

The China War Medal 1900 was authorized by Army Order in 1901 and awarded to British and Imperial troops in commemoration of the China War of 1900, also known as the Boxer Rebellion. Silver Medals were awarded to combatants while Bronze Medals were awarded to Native and Indian bearers and servants.

3 clasps were authorized for award with the Bronze Medal:

1. “RELIEF OF PEKIN”
2. “TAKU FORTS”
3. “DEFENCE OF LEGATIONS”

A variety of different naming styles were used and the value of the Bronze Medal varies by the recipient.
