History

The France and Germany Star was instituted by King George VI in May 1945 to reward members of the British and Commonwealth forces for 1 day or more of operation service in France, Belgium, Holland, or Germany between June 6, 1944 (D-Day) and May 8, 1945 (Germany’s Surrender). The Bronze Star was also awarded for service in connection with campaigns in Northern Europe in the Northern Sea, English Channel, and the Bay of Biscay.

The clasp “ATLANTIC” was also authorized for wear with the France and Germany Star to denote subsequent awards of the Atlantic Star. A silver rosette designating the award of the clasp was worn on the ribbon when the ribbon was worn alone.
