The George I Coronation Medal was instituted in 1714. The Medal was distributed to crowds during the Coronation ceremony of King George I on October 20, 1714. The Medal was issued in Gold, Silver, and Bronze. Gold Medals were presented to members of the royal family, Silver Medals to esteemed peers of the royal household and members of parliament, and Bronze Medals were often thrown into the crowds. It is estimated that 330 Gold and 1 200 Silver Medals were issued.
