History

The Jubilee Police Medal 1897 was instituted in commemoration of Queen Victoria's 60th anniversary of the accession to the throne. The Bronze Medal was awarded to members of the Metropolitan Police, City of London Police, Police Ambulance, St. John Ambulance Brigade, and Metropolitan Fire Brigade services during the Diamond Jubilee celebration on June 20, 1897.

A clasp inscribed "1897" was presented to recipients of the Jubilee (Police) Medal 1887 who were still serving in 1897.

The Medal is similar in design to the Jubilee (Police) Medal 1887 but features a reverse inscription of the service's name and the date "1897."
