History

The King Edward VII Coronation Mayors and Provosts Medal 1902 was instituted in commemoration of the coronation of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra on August 9, 1902. The Silver Medal was presented to Lord mayors, provincial mayors, Scottish Lord provosts, provincial provosts, civic dignitaries and officials who participated in the Coronation celebrations.

The Medal features a reverse inscription of the date "26 JUNE 1902" even though the coronation was held on August 9, 1902. This is because the ceremony was postponed due to a sudden illness of King Edward VII after the Medals were already struck.
