The William IV Coronation Medal was instituted in 1831. The Medal was distributed to the crowd during the Coronation ceremony of King William IV on September 8, 1831, and was issued in Gold, Silver, and Bronze. Gold Medals were presented to members of the Royal Family, Silver Medals were given to members of parliament and esteemed peers of the royal household, and Bronze Medals were thrown into crowds of observers. Approximately 1000 Gold, 2000 Silver, and 1133 Bronze Medals were issued.
