This Medal was instituted by King George VI by Royal Warrant on December 14, 1932, following the separation of Burma and British India. TheBronze Medal was permanently discontinued in 1948 following the establishment of Burmese independence. The Medal was awarded to members of Burmese police forces, including civil and military police forces, the frontier force, and the fire brigades in recognition of acts of bravery performed on duty. It could also be awarded in recognition of long and meritorious service. The annual contingent was limited to 25 recipients, but from 1947-1948, the medals awarded in recognition of acts of bravery were extra-numerary.
Provisions were made for the Medal to be awarded multiple times to the same recipient with a bar clasp, but none were ever awarded.
Recipients who received the Medal in recognition of acts of gallantry were also entitled to a monetary award.
There may be additional versions that differ in size.
