    History

The Royal West Africa Frontier Force Long Service and Good Conduct Medal was established in September of 1903. The Silver Medal was awarded to Non-commissioned Officers and other ranks of the Royal West African Frontier Force for 18 years of exemplary service. The Medal was discontinued in 1960.

There are 2 versions of the Medal which vary in reverse inscription. The first version features the inscription "WEST AFRICAN FRONTIER FORCE" while the second version was altered to read "ROYAL WEST AFRICAN FRONTIER FORCE." There may be additional versions which differ by the obverse effigy of the ruling monarch. The obverse inscription is uncertain.
