History

The Shanghai Jubilee Medal was instituted in 1893 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the First British consul after the Treaty of Nanking which ended the Opium War. The Medal was presented in Silver and Bronze during the Jubilee celebrations on November 17th, 1893. Approximately 625 Silver and 100 Bronze Medals were issued.

A silver clasp inscribed "1843-1893" is known to have been awarded with the Medal.
