A Gebirgsjäger M43 Cap Edelweiss Insignia. Constructed of silvered bronze with a gilded magnetic metal centerpiece, with five holes for sew-on attachment, unmarked, measuring 40 mm (w) x 57 mm (l), in extremely fine condition.
The Edelweiss Insignia was worn by mountain troops. It was introduced on May 2, 1939. On the visor cap it was worn between the cockade insignia and the eagle insignia, whereas on the mountain cap it was affixed to the left side.
There are two main varieties. The one worn with the visor cap usually had no stem, whereas the one worn with the mountain cap did. The insignia was made of two pieces, a gold-coloured stamen and silver-coloured petals.
The insignia was made of metal.
