History

In general, the uniforms of the male Hitler Youth members consisted of a top, a neckerchief and woggle – but a tie for officers –, bottoms, a belt, knee socks, and shoes or boots.

The riding boots were worn by different members of the Hitler Youth at different times. The name refers to their style rather than their use for actual equestrian purposes.

A regulation from 1933 stated that non-officers could wear them during the winter months from October 15 to April 14. They were worn with socks.

Leader ranks had the choice to wear them all year round, as stated in a regulation from November 6, 1936. In a regulation from September 30, 1938, the riding boots became mandatory for all leader ranks.

Members of the Naval HJ wore black boots with their dress uniform (Großer Dienstanzug) during the winter months.
