A Narvik & Kreta Honor Plaque of the Fighter Group z.b.V. 105; In silvered zinc, 10 x 14.5cm, maker marked H. Koch at the bottom right corner, in very fine condition.
The award was most likely instituted between January and August 1942 by Oberstleutnant Emil Deffner.
The award is rectangular and comparatively thin. It shows a winged fuel barrel superimposed over a map of Europe.
The two locations named on the left side, Narvik (in Norway) and Kreta (Crete, Greece), were the two most important sites of operation the unit was involved in at the time of the award's institution.
The lower right corner features the name H. Koch, who presumably designed the award.
The German title of this award is "Ehrenplakette der Kampfgruppe z. b. V. 105". "Z. b. V." stands for "zur besonderen Verwendung", meaning for special purposes. These units were used for transport and supply flights.
