The award was presumably instituted in 1941 by General Bieneck. No award document, just an accompanying short note was given with the award.
The award is in the form of a shield with a raised edge. The upper edge is curved inwards slightly. The top features a Luftwaffe eagle with swastika, facing to the viewer's right. On the left side is a downwards pointing, standing sword with "1941" on the crossguard. The inscription reads: for outstanding achievements / the commanding general and chief of Air District II. The inscription is broken up into two parts by means of a bar of oak leaves with a ribbon in the centre. At the bottom is the crest of the city of Posen (Poznań, Poland).
There are two types of this award which are identical in design and only differ in colour: Type A is silver-coloured, while Type B is light brown.
The German title of this award is "Ehrenschild des Luftgaukommandos II".
