Blackened iron, unmarked, 38.5 mm x 43.3 mm, vertical pinback, very light blackening wear on the pin and clasp, extremely fine.
The Wound Badge was instituted by Wilhelm II to reward and recognize the sacrifice of German Military personnel wounded in active service during World War I.
The Gold Badge was conferred for five or more wounds, as well as to personnel who had lost a limb.
The Silver Badge was conferred for three or fours wounds.
The Black Badge was conferred for one or two wounds.
