An oval badge constructed of blackened tombac, the obverse with a Stahlhelm in the centre, superimposed on crossed swords within a wreath of laurel leaves with a tied bow at the bottom, the reverse presents a vertical pin assembly, measures 39.16 mm (w) x 44.26 mm (h), weighs 9.3 grams, and in extremely fine condition.
The Wound Badge was instituted by Wilhelm II to reward and recognize the sacrifice of German Military personnel wounded in active service during World War I.
The Gold Badge was conferred for five or more wounds, as well as to personnel who had lost a limb.
The Silver Badge was conferred for three or fours wounds.
The Black Badge was conferred for one or two wounds.
