Physical Description and Item Details


Constructed of oval shaped gilded metal (magnetic), the obverse pebbled with a Stahlhelm in the centre superimposed on crossed swords within a wreath of laurel leaves with a tied bow at the bottom, the reverse plain with screw back version with large plate, measuring 37.95 mm (w) x 43.21 mm (h), weighing 13.5 grams, and better than very fine condition.

History


The Wound Badge was instituted by King Wilhelm II to recognize and reward the sacrifice of German Military personnel wounded in active service during the First World War.

The Gold Badge was conferred for five or more wounds, as well as to personnel who had lost a limb.

The Silver Badge was conferred for three or fours wounds.

The Black Badge was conferred for one or two wounds.
