Constructed of oval shaped silvered metal (magnetic); the obverse pebbled with a Stahlhelm in the centre, superimposed on crossed swords within a wreath of laurel leaves with a tied bow at the bottom; the reverse plain with a vertical needle style pin, sheet metal hinge, and a round wire catch; 39.81 mm (w) x 45.15 mm (h); weighing 6.9 grams; in overall very fine condition.
The Wound Badge was instituted by King Wilhelm II to recognize and reward the sacrifice of German Military personnel wounded in active service during the First World War.
The Gold Badge was conferred for five or more wounds, as well as to personnel who had lost a limb.
The Silver Badge was conferred for three or fours wounds.
The Black Badge was conferred for one or two wounds.
