An oval badge constructed of silver, the obverse pebbled with a Stahlhelm in the centre, superimposed on crossed swords within a wreath of laurel leaves with a tied bow at the bottom, the reverse presents a screw back, stamped “800” for silver fineness on both the screw back rings, the back plate maker marked “K.M.” for Königliches Muenzamt Stuttgart, measures 37.97 mm (w) x 43.21 mm (h), weighs 15.8 grams, and in near extremely fine condition.
The Wound Badge was instituted by King Wilhelm II to recognize and reward the sacrifice of German Military personnel wounded in active service during the First World War.
The Gold Badge was conferred for five or more wounds, as well as to personnel who had lost a limb.
The Silver Badge was conferred for three or fours wounds.
The Black Badge was conferred for one or two wounds.
