A First War German Wound Badge; Silver Grade Screwback - in silvered iron (magnetic), die struck, excellent quality, screw back version with large plate, in near mint condition; a scarce version.

History


The Wound Badge was instituted by King Wilhelm II to recognize and reward the sacrifice of German Military personnel wounded in active service during the First World War.

The Gold Badge was conferred for five or more wounds, as well as to personnel who had lost a limb.

The Silver Badge was conferred for three or fours wounds.

The Black Badge was conferred for one or two wounds.
