History

The Medal of Military Duty was instituted on July 9, 1953, as a replacement for the Medal for Devotion to Duty (see EGY122). The Medal is presented to members of the Egyptian Armed Forces regardless of rank in 3 Classes to reward distinguished non-combatant military service. Eligible service includes the faithful and courageous performance of duty. The Medal also be awarded to foreigners.

The Medal may be awarded posthumously.

The Medal features a reverse Arabic inscription which translates to "The Military Medal of Duty" as well as the dates of establishment "1953-1372."

There are multiple versions of the Medal which vary by reverse design and inscription. The different versions reflect the political changes in Egypt. There may be additional versions of the Medal not featured here.
