Egypt, Republic. An Order of the Sinai Star 1973
(Wisam Negma Sinna). In bronze with very day green enamels, appearing almost black, illustrating an eight-pointed star, dated in Arabic numerals "1973" on both sides, with loops on the top three star points for suspension, measuring 69 mm (w) x 74.5 mm (h), intact enamels, extremely fine.
The Order of the Sinai Star was established in 1972 as Egypt's highest military honour. The Order is conferred in 2 classes to Officers, Non-commissioned Officers, and soldiers of the Egyptian Armed Forces. There is also a Special Class associated with the Order. The Order rewards personnel for acts of extraordinary gallantry and outstanding bravery performed in direct combat with the enemy and which resulted in enemy casualties. It is estimated that approximately 200 awards have been issued; with many being presented for service in the Suez Canal.
The Order may be awarded posthumously.
Recipients of the II Class award receive, among other privileges, a monthly monetary reward of 10 000 Egyptian pounds for the duration of their service.
