    History

The Qatamon, or Katamon, Medal was instituted in May 1948 to reward members of the Israel Defence Force (IDF) for service in the battle for the conquest of the Qatamon neighbourhood in Jerusalem during the War of Independence. The authorization for the award of the Medal is believed to have been discontinued by 1949.

The Medal features a Hebrew inscription on the obverse which translates to "If I Forget the O Jerusalem Let my Right Hand be Forgotten", as well as on the reverse which translates to "For the Conquest of Qatamon, Jerusalem."

There are 2 versions of the Medal which differ by composition.
