History

The Order of Independence (Wisam Al Ordani Al Istiklal) was instituted by Hussein Bin Ali, the Sharif of Mecca and later the King of Hejaz, in 1921. The Order was originally created in commemoration of Arab independence and awarded to personnel in recognition of service towards achieving independence. In 1925, the Order was retained and modified by King Abdullah I of Jordan; who expanded the Order to reward civil and military personnel for meritorious service to the state. Foreigners may also be eligible for the award. The Order is conferred as the Kingdom of Jordan's 4th highest order of knighthood in 5 Classes. There is also an associated Medal authorized for award with the Order.

The III Class Commander is worn from a neck ribbon and features Arabic script on the obverse which translates to "El Hussein Bin Ali."
