A circular silvered medal, the obverse bears two arms with broken shackles and sun beams around them, encompassed by a border of barbed wire, the top bears the image of a cedar tree, the reverse is plain, with a ring suspension, on a white, red, green and blue striped ribbon, measuring 40mm in diameter.
The Medal of War Prisoner was established on August 16, 2001. It is awarded to soldiers and civilians in its three classes.
The I Class is in gilt and awarded to those who spent three or more years in captivity.
The II Class is in silver and awarded to those who spent between one and three years in captivity.
The III Class is in bronze and awarded to those who spent a year or less in captivity.
This medal can be awarded posthumously.
