History


The Syrian Arab Army Medal 1962 was instituted by Legislative Decree on September 13, 1962. The Medal was awarded to all members of the Syrian Armed Forces who served on August 1, 1962, in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Syrian Army. The award of the Medal was later extended in 1965 to reward military personnel who served prior to 1962 as well as to personnel who provided active service after the Ba'ath seizure of power on March 8, 1963.

The obverse features an Arabic inscription of the 20th-anniversary date commemorated by the Medal which corresponds to 1 August 1945.

There may be an additional version of the Medal which differs by design. More research is necessary.
