History

The Order of Spitamen was established on December 16, 1996. The Order is awarded in 2 Classes as a military award and is named after one of the great heroes of Tajik history, Spitamen, the warlord of Sogdiana, who became the only army general to defeat a part of the Macedonian army.

The II Class is awarded to junior and senior Commissioned Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers, and other enlisted personnel of the Tajikistan Armed Forces in recognition of the exemplary performance of military and official duties undertaken during difficult circumstances. Other achievements in crime control may also be eligible for the award of the II Class.
