History

The Order Gurbansoltan-Edzhe was created as a ladies award and is named after the Turkmenistan President for Life, Saparmurat Niyazov's mother. Both Turkmenistan citizens and foreign nationals who have demonstrated significant meritious service in social, political, and work-life areas are eligible for the award of the Order. Qualifying service includes strengthening the morals, spirituality and traditions of the Turkmenistan people as well as raising youth in a spirit of love and respect for their native land. The Order may also be awarded for significant contributions to the development and strengthening of the state's international prestige, achievements in the implementation of large-scale democratic and economic reforms, strengthening the moral foundation of Turkmen society, and strengthening the role and authority of the family.

Recipients of the Order are also entitled to a one-time monetary prize of 10 times the average wage and a monthly supplement of 30 percent of the average wage paid for labour.
