History

The Order of September 26 was originally instituted by the Arab Republic of Yemen (North Yemen) in 1981 to commemorate the 1962 revolution which resulted in the establishment of the Yemen Arab Republic. The Order was later amended following the unification of North Yemen and South Yemen, and the formation of the Republic of Yemen in April 1991. The Order is awarded in 3 Classes to civilians as the Republic of Yemen's third highest honour.
