A New Zealand Operational Service Medal - Plated zinc alloy, 35.5 mm, original ribbon, light contact, extremely fine.
The New Zealand Operational Service Medal was established by Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of New Zealand by Royal Warrant in 2002. It was created to recognise operational service performed by past and current members of the New Zealand Defence Force as well as other New Zealanders. Personnel who have been awarded a campaign medal for operational service since September 3, 1945 qualify for the New Zealand Operational Service Medal. It is awarded only once to an individual, and may also be awarded posthumously.
Prior to July 1, 2009, the Silver Medals was issued unnamed. Versions awarded prior to this date may have been privately altered to include a named engraving.
