Noah’s ark at sea, a dove flying above bearing an olive branch; in the sky a rainbow joins St. Petersburg and Stockholm, three-line Latin legend (with chronogram date) in ex. / Twelve-line Latin legend (To the Great, Best,God-Fearing and Fortunate, to Sovereign Peter I in Name and Deed the Great RussianEmperor and Father Who in Two Decades of Triumph Subdued the North, This Medal Struckfrom Gold is Respectfully Presented). Rare and very attractive. Toned a pleasing lavender gray with iridescent turquoise and violet highlights.
This medal was created in commemoration of the signing of the Treaty of Nystad, which ended the Northern War.
The silver medal was awarded to non-commissioned officers who participated in the Northern War.
The obverse inscription translates to: "St. Petersburg" and "Stockholm", as well as "Bound by the Peace Alliance", "In Nystad at the Termination of the War of 1721". The reverse inscription translates to: "To the Great Orthodox and Propitious Sovereign Peter I by Edict and Deeeds the Great Russian Emperor and Father in Two Decades of Triumph Having Pacified the North this Silver Russian Medal is Fervently Presented."
