This medal was established during the reign of Alexander I in commemoration of the ending of the campaign against the Napoleonic forces.
The silver medal was awarded to all ranks in recognition of participation in the War of 1812. Blue ribbons demonstrate military awards, a black ribbon with a red central stripe depicts awards for nobles and red ribbons with a thin yellow stripe near each edge were for merchants, for their contribution to the war effor.
The reverse inscription translates to, "Not Unto Us, not Unto Us, But in Thy Name", a verse taken from Psalm 115.
