Cross. 4th Class. Gold. 32 by 32 mm. Hallmarked with a partial date on loop ‘..33’ for 1833. 8.56 gm. Center with Polish eagle in a wreath. Legends in black enamel. Rare especially with clearly identifiable date. Green enamel almost entirely missing, minimal wear, well preserved, rare.

History

Originally, this was a Polish Order created by the King of Poland in 1792 (see POL102). It was adopted into the Russian awards system by Nicholas I in 1831, and was discontinued in 1835.

It should be noted that the date on the reverse was changed from 1792 to 1831, to signify the absorption of the Polish Kingdom into the Russian Empire.

The obverse and reverse feature inscriptions.
