Constructed of silver, on loop for suspension from its period original bowtie-style ribbon, presenting as a Cross Pattée with central obverse medallion depicting raised image of St. George slaying a dragon, reverse with central medallion depicting monogram of Tsar Nicholas II, reverse left and right arms inscribed with award number “222009”, lower arm inscribed with “3 СТЕП” (“III Class”), unmarked, measuring 34.52 mm (w) x 41.15 mm (h) and weighing 14.0 grams inclusive of ribbon, in better than very fine condition.
This Order was originally an Imperial Russian award. It was later re-instated in March 1992, after the fall of the Soviet Union.
It is conferred upon soldiers, sailors, and officers in recognition of distinction in battle, both on the home front and in other territories.
If the medal is not worn, a ribbon bar with the Roman numeral for "three" is worn.
The III Class cross features a reverse Russian inscription translated to: "third class". The reverse also features the initials "SG" in Cyrillic script (for Saint George).
