The Medal for Victory Over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945 was established on May 9, 1945. This medal was conferred on all servicemen and civilian volunteers for participation in the conflict against Germany in the Great Patriotic War. Over 14,900,000 medals were awarded.
The medal is composed of brass. The obverse depicts a left facing Stalin in uniform. It has three variations.
Variation I has a separately soldered on ring at 12 o'clock.
Variation II has a 12 o'clock ring that is made as a part of the medal in the shape of an upside down U. The suspension on the variation II ring were filed down.
Variation III has a 12 o'clock ring that is made as a part of the medal.
The obverse Russian inscription translates: "Our Cause is Just, We Were Victorious". The reverse Russian inscription translates to: "For Victory over Germany" and "In the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945".
