The Order of the Friendship of Peoples was established on December 17, 1972. This Order was conferred upon citizens of the USSR, military units, civilian and state organizations in recognition of governmental, economic, military, cultural, or scientific advances, or international cooperation. It was established in part to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Soviet Union.
The Order consists of four pieces, composed of gold, silver, with green, red, white and blue enamel. It is worn on the left breast by a five sided suspension. It measures 29mm from star tip to tip, and the reverse presents a raised, curved Monetny Dvor maker mark along with a total of six rivets. The serial numbers range from 1-75,000. The lowest observed number 896 and the highest is 74,381.
The obverse Russian inscription translates to: "Friendship of Peoples".
