A Maltese cross constructed of silver. The obverse centre bears a circular medallion in blue enamel with the inscription "DEM VERDIENST" (for merit), encompassed by a green enamel laurel border. It is thought that the II Class Cross is smaller than the I Class Cross.
This Order of Merit was founded by Duke August Christian Friedrich of Anhalt-Köthen on August 15, 1811. It was awarded to recognize outstanding service to the sovereign and state. The Order may never have been awarded.
