Constructed of gilded bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse consisting of central intgerated monograms of Kaiser Wihelm I and Augusta of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach, circumscribed by an inscription of “11 JUNI 1829-1879”, topped by a German State Crown, the reverse with central coats of arms of Prussia and and Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach, topped by a royal crown, circumscribed by an inscription of “GOTT MIT UNS” with laurel branches, unmarked, measuring 28.30 mm (w) x 37.82 mm (h), weighing 14.2 grams (inclusive of ribbon), in extremely fine condition.
The Golden Wedding Medal, 1879 was founded by King Wilhelm I to commemorate the golden anniversary of his wedding to Queen Augusta.
The II Class Medal was conferred upon officers and officials. 175 medals were minted, and 25 were awarded on July 16, 1879.
The exterior ring containing the inscription is not enamelled.
